Today marks the anniversary of two events that altered the course of Russian history. February 21,1613: a special zemskii sobor selected Mikhail Romanov as the new Russian Tsar, establishing the Romanov dynasty that lasted for over 300 years until the February Revolution of 1917. February 21, 1848: Karl Marx’s “The Communist Manifesto” was published.
